Once You've Moved In

Congratulations! You're now a new home owner. You've invested a lot in creating the home of your dreams. Here are some member tips to make the most of your investment.

  • Most builders provide you with information about your home's heating, cooling, appliance, etc. Learn how to operate and maintain everything in your home to increase your years of trouble-free enjoyment.
  • A new house takes approximately one year to "dry out" after construction, and settling can continue for more than a year. It's a good idea to run a de-humidifier in the basement during the first year, but not on the upper floors. Too rapid drying could affect flooring and other finishings.
  • High-end natural materials, eg. marble, granite and slate, have very specific maintenance requirements. Refer to the cleaning and care guides provided by your builder.
  • It's possible that some exterior work on your home has not been completed by the time you move in. This is common - please don't panic. There are a number of different reasons - the time of year is a factor, e.g. sod is laid in the spring and driveways are paved in the spring/early summer. Make note of incomplete areas on your PDI, and inform your builder.
  • Maintain your relationship with your builder. Just because you've moved into your home, this does not mean your relationship ends here - your builder is still a valuable resource to you.
