Questions to Ask Your Builder:

1. When should I start the process to sell my current house/condo? How close should my closing date be to the day I’ll get my keys for the new house?
2. What are the key stages of building my home that will require me to make decisions? What are my deadlines to make the decisions?
3. Which upgrades are important to determine first and why?
4. What is your selection process for upgrades, colours and finishes?
5. What can I do to make the selection process run smoothly?
6. How long will it take to build my house?
7. If I notice an error or problem while my house is under construction, who do I call? (e.g. Who is my ‘go-to’ person)?
8. How will the builder or his customer representative communicate with me if a problem occurs?
9. When and where do I get my keys to my new home?
10. At which point do I legally “own” the house?
11. When will I be asked to do a pre-delivery inspection (PDI)?
12. When does the responsibility for paying the utilities become mine?
13. When will sod be laid on my lot?
14. When can I build a fence, create a garden or install a pool?
15. At what point do I pay for the upgrades I’ve chosen?
